artifacts of power - stuff associated with power, such as crowns or unique weapons (but please no random iron sword or battle axe, we are playing as kings and emperors!) those would be mostly focused on legitimacy, dynastic symbols, prestige and piety. consumables - stuff you get to use situationally (for example, a venomous snake you could use to assassinate someone, or a miracle cure you could try when getting a disease)

But in practice, it shouldn't work like it did.įirst, artifacts should be categorized in at least three categories: Thematically, both artifacts and societies are interesting concepts. Honestly, the entire systems should be reworked. While +(1/2/3) Sword of Stat Boosting is a common thing in fantasy RPGs, it's not a concept that attracts good narrative. I would just assume my character has a crown and good armor and such and save the item slots for actually unique treasures, like historical crowns, Swords of Muhammad and similar super awesome things, and they could have more defined character. Hermeticist/monastic/satanist monarchs shouldn't be the rule, but the exception, and the game mechanics should reflect this.įor items, the main problem is that there was a ton of them and what they had in quantity, they lacked in character. I would prefer if society membership would be something I wouldn't want for every single ruler of mine, more like something special that kicks in every once in a while. Societies have a lot of problems: they are easy to join, give a lot of rewards for little investment. I hope they'll be back in some form but not like they were in CK2. Societies and items were both among my least favorite implementations of cool-sounding features.
